If you are like me, you have seen the commercials: "Make sure to switch over your cable box so you don't receive this. pause.. ***annoying static screen*** end pause. Unnecessary drama. But hey, I guess even television commercials need to convey the dramatic effect of Hollywood.
Let me tell you why the digital transition occurring on February 17, will NOT effect 99% of the American population. To be exact, 6.5 million people will be without a picture. Those 6.5 million people either live in a hole in boondock city, or simply don't care. You know those rabbit ear antennas that companies have discontinued in the early-mid 90s? The fancy term for this type of television is coined the "analog" TV. Yes, those are the televisions that will not work. I have not seen one of those since I visited my nearby thrift store, and that may I add, hasn't moved from its display table for 5 years.
The government is smart. They want money. This isn't a secret. They like to tax. They like to give out speeding tickets. They like to put you in jail for bowling, (Yes this is a true law and only complies in the town of Evanston, Illinois). Therefore, they want to scam the American people into buying a transitional digital box. According to the official digital transition government website: www.dtv.gov it states: Between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two, digital-to-analog converter boxes.
Do not let the sales term, "coupon" fool you! It's a scam!!

You are complaining about the govt increasing your taxes to pay for the coupon? Now you are starting to talk like a Republican.
