Hump Day Trivia: Angel

If you read yesterday's blog entry, it is quite obvious why this week's trivia is devoted to the demonic television series,
Angel (Pun recognized.) Earlier this week, Andy Hallett, who played the lovable, smiley faced green demon Lorne on the hit television series, tragically died after battling a five year heart condition.

If you did not watch the series when it aired on the WB, go out and buy the entire collection. Seriously. Excellent writing, excellent acting, and well..excellence. Which brings me to my next accolade: The writing from Angel and Buffy are primary contributors to my internal grammar book that I use to communicate with my social surroundings.

Andy Hallett Trivia Special Section:

  • It took Andy Hallett 2.5 hours to apply the red eyed, green-skin, and two-horned makeup for his character, Lorne.
  • Hallett referring to the tedious makeup process: "It doesn't make me any more pleasant. The makeup people hate me, they call me the old green bitch."
  • It took Hallett 45 episodes to finally appear in the opening credits: Season 4, to be exact.
  • Andy's character Lorne was only supposed to appear on Angel for two episodes, but the fan response was so positive that the writers kept writing him into the show.
Other Angel Trivia:
  • In the opening credit sequence of every episode, there is an image of a woman standing by the side of a street. This is not actually taken from any episode in the series but rather it's from the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
  • No character that originated on "Angel" ever appeared on "Buffy."
  • During his season four storyline arc as Angelus, David Boreanaz was allowed to improvise many of his lines.
  • According to an interview, Nicholas Brendon who had played Xander on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) offered to jump to "Angel" (1999) after the Buffy finale on UPN. However, the producers turned him down, "because he wouldn't fit in."
  • Josh Holloway played "Good-looking Guy/Vampire" in Angel's series premiere episode,"City Of...". You may know be more familiar with Holloway's current gig: He currently plays southern bad ass Sawyer on the abc hit show, Lost.
