Hump Day Trivia: James Stewart
Happy Birthday to the late great James Stewart. The notable legend lives on in the many timeless classics that have graced the silver screen. Christmas would not be the same without having a Wonderful Life, I needed to meet the man who Shot Liberty Valence, and my own personal Vertigo is justifiable.
This week's Hump Day Trivia: Rear Window
starring James Stewart and "I want to be" Grace Kelly, directed by the master filmeteer Alfred Hitchcock.
Ultimately, Hitchcock's film is asking the viewer: Who is the peeping tom? Stewart's character, or the audience? Essentially, every film is an escape venue for the audience to indulge in guilt-free voyeuristic tendencies that, we as society, thrive upon.
Ok now for the trivia: (Source: imdb.com)
- At the time the set was the largest indoor set built at Paramount Studios.
- During the month-long shoot Georgine Darcy, who played "Miss Torso", "lived" in her apartment all day, relaxing between takes as if really at home.
- While shooting, Alfred Hitchcock worked only in Jeff's "apartment." The actors in other apartments wore flesh-colored earpieces so that he could radio his directions to them.
- Director Cameo: [Alfred Hitchcock] about a half hour into the film, winding the clock in the songwriter's apartment. The songwriter is real-life songwriter Ross Bagdasarian.
- The 35mm camera that James Stewart holds with the huge telephoto lens attached is an early 1950s Exakta Varex VX manufactured in Dresden, Germany. The Paramount property department purposely covered over the name with black masking tape.
- One thousand arc lights were used to simulate sunlight. Thanks to extensive pre-lighting of the set, the crew could make the changeover from day to night in under forty-five minutes.

Hump Day Trivia: Robert Pattinson & Twilight
- Stephenie Meyer had her own personal cast before all the roles were officially casted. They including Emily Browning as Bella Swan, Henry Cavill as Edward Cullen, Charlie Hunnam as Carlisle Cullen, Mary-Louise Parker as Esme Cullen, Rachael Leigh Cook as Alice Cullen, Trent Ford as Jasper Hale, Tom Welling as Emmett Cullen and Olivia Wilde as Rosalie Hale.
- For the role of Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson flew from England to director Catherine Hardwicke's house to audition. There, he and Kristen Stewart, who was already cast as Bella Swan, rehearsed the "Love Scene"/"Meadow Scene" on Hardwicke's own bed.
- Taylor Lautner had to wear a wig for his role as Jacob Black.
- Over 5,000 actors auditioned for the role of Edward.
- The script was finished in 6 weeks.
- Henry Cavill was offered the part of Edward Cullen due to the fan base he had of him playing Edward. He declined the offer, and was later offered the role of Carlisle Cullen but declined that role as well.
- Kristen Stewart wore hair pieces so they didn't have to waste time doing her hair, and therefore had more time to shoot.
- Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) learned how to play baseball left-handed for the famous baseball scene.
- Before casting, Robert Pattinson had never heard of the Twilight novel. He only attended casting because he liked Kristen Stewart's performance in Into the Wild (2007).
- Stephenie Meyer cited the band Muse as her source of inspiration to write her books. Another of her favorite groups is Linkin Park, who contributed a song in the soundtrack.
- In the hospital scene, when Bella and her mother are talking about the accident, the TV in the background can be seen playing the previous scene.
- It took 36 hours to turn Nikki Reed's naturally brunette hair to blonde.
- Robert Pattinson moved to Oregon a few weeks before filming began and didn't talk to anyone to try and feel as isolated as Edward Cullen.
- In the first biology classroom scene, Edward Cullen is clearly shown with white wings, an indirect hint about his angelic beauty as written in the book.
- The dress Kristen Stewart wears in the prom scene was only twenty dollars. The suit Robert Pattinson wore was the most expensive item of clothing from the entire shoot.
- When Carlisle bit Edward, he whispered something into his ear. The first time it was "I'm sorry" then "My son". On about the fifth take he said, "You're sexy".

Let the Planting Begin...
Ah, yes, May is here. The rain is falling, the birds are chirping, Networks are wacking away the weeds in their lineup and planting television seeds that will hopefully bloom into a beautiful money tree.
Here are some newbies for NBC: I have also provided if I think they will be WEEDS or MONEY TREES
Now that Jay Leno will be included in Primetime, 5 days a week, for one hour, the network has a lot of plowing to do...
(Facts compiled from Mediaweek.com: Programming Insider)
What will you watch?
Drama
MERCY: WEED - haven't we seen this plot before? It also may have a disadvantage due to the Summer premiere Jada Pinkett-Smith's nurse drama Hawthorne airing on TNT.
The daily events inside a hospital are seen through the eyes of three nurses. Taylor Schilling (Dark Matter), Jamie Lee Kirchner (Rescue Me) and Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer) star.
PARENTHOOD: WEED, not gonna last
Based on the 1989 Ron Howard theatrical, four grown siblings share the "headaches, heartaches and joy" of being parents. Peter Krause, Maria Tierney and former Coach star Craig T. Nelson lead the ensemble cast. (Footnote: Parenthood, a failed half-hour comedic version of the movie aired briefly on NBC in the fall of 1990).
TRAUMA: MONEY TREE, this is not another nurse med drama, this is set outside of Seattle Grace, or House's Princeton-Plainsboro fun house; I'm intrigued.
First responder paramedics are the focus of this medical drama set in San Francisco. Derek Luke (Notorious), Cliff Curtis (10,000 B.C.), Anastasia Griffith (Damages) and Jamey Sheridan (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) star.
DAY ONE: MONEY TREE, this could potentially be the next Lost (which will end in 2010)
A diversified group of survivors strive to rebuild society after a global catastrophe has devastated the world. The cast includes Adam Campbell (Date Movie), Catherine Dent (The Shield), Julie Gonzalo (Eli Stone), Carly Pope (24) and Addison Timlin (Cashmere Mafia).
----------
Comedy
100 QUESTIONS: WEED, this is the How I Met Your Mother only.....stupid
A woman (Sophie Winkleman) looking for love joins an online dating site and revisits various times in her life as she takes a 100-question compatibility test. Directed by Emmy winner James Burroughs (Cheers, Will & Grace).
COMMUNITY: MONEY TREE. Chevy Chase is back! This will either be utterly funny or utterly creepy.
A band of misfits is the focus of life at fictional Greendale Community College. Chevy Chase and Joel McHale (The Soup) star.
----------
Non-Scripted
THE JAY LENO SHOW: MONEY TREE. It's a given.
The soon-to-be former host of The Tonight Show heads to prime-time in a nightly hour featuring comedy skits, big stunts and well-known segments like "Headlines" and "Jaywalking."
THE MARRIAGE REF: WEED: Too much
Comedy Legend Jerry Seinfeld is the creator and producer of this non-scripted look at marriage as celebrities, comedians and sports stars decide who is right…and who is wrong…in real-life disputes between real-life spouses.
BREAKTHROUGH WITH TONY ROBBINS: MONEY TREE. NBC version of Most Extreme Makeover. A sure winner.
Best-selling author and philanthropist Tony Robbins attempts to inspire people to search out the tools to forever change their lives.
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?: MONEY TREE, fallen superstars trying to find purpose? Yep. America loves this type of crass.
A different celebrity each week embarks on a journey of self discovery, revealing stories that are often linked to events in American history.

Hump Day Trivia: George Clooney
Today, George Clooney turned 48 years old. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of this "hunk." It is also Tom Bergeron's birthday, and was planning on devoting today's Hump Day Trivia to the host of Dancing with the Stars, but after last night, I have decided to devote today's trivia to overrated Clooney. Yea, I said it, overrated.
He has only starred in one good feature film, Oceans 11, and that is only because of the star ensemble cast. The other would be the television series that boosted is star power: ER. Also brilliant because of the ensemble, not swooney Clooney (Hey, the series seemed to do just fine when he Y2K'd back in '99.
I give you, ER
- In the live broadcast of 1997, the baseball game that George Clooney's character is watching in the break room was the Cubs-Astros game, also being broadcast live that night on WGN.
- George Clooney had his first regular TV role in a comedy ten years earlier called "E/R" (1984).
- Matthew Watkins, the child who plays Reese Benton, Peter's deaf son, is hearing impaired in real life
- The basketball hoop found outside the ambulance bay of the ER was actually George Clooney's idea. Apparently the actor likes to unwind in between takes by shooting some hoops. Because this, it was placed in an area of the Warner Brothers (Burbank, California) studio lot where it could be picked up by the camera. It quickly became a part of the series itself.
- The helicopter used for ER actually belongs to the University of Chicago Hospital
- Although mostly shot at Warner Brother's Burbank soundstages, the cast and crew usually will make at least two trips to Chicago each season to shoot realistic exterior scenes for several episodes which include many familiar Chicago landmarks. These scenes are normally shot on early Sunday mornings to avoid disrupting traffic.
- The very first person to appear on-screen in the first episode is Anthony Edwards
- Originally planned as a film, which Steven Spielberg was supposed to direct. When plans fell through and the project eventually became a series, Spielberg became interested in another Michael Crichton creation: Jurassic Park (1993).
- After the show premiered on September 19, 1994, it has aired on Thursday nights at 10:00 for its entire run.
- This is the most Emmy-nominated show in television history at 123 nominations.

!?!?!?!?
- Old people (majority demo for show) are scared of Lil Kim. Her hips don't lie.
- Her partner, Derek: Hot but, "Dude, she's the celeb, not you."
- Reality TV Conspiracy Theory #12569034583 to add to the books: The Producers rigged it! More publicity! Hey, I'm talking about the "shocker", aren't I?

May The 4th Be With You
No I do not have a grammatical lisp, nor do I make fun of those who do have a lisp.
And if I had to reassure you, then, " shame on you, I must say."
Still don't get it?
Ok... for the non nerds in cyberspace, it is in fact: "Star Wars Day". This is a happy day for me. I love Star Wars. All 5 of them! (I choose to ignore the Phantom Menace s a Star Wars film.) Lucas was just having a little mid-galaxy crisis. I forgive you, Lucas.
However, the following question will always pollute my mind. "Lucas, Why in the entire universe of extroadinary proportions did you DESTROY the original 3 films?" No, but really. Why? For the Re-Premiere of the classic 3 films (Ep IV,V,VI) Lucas went to the CGI Candy store, got a sugar high, and went digi-crazy. Lucas calls these sugary films "Special Editions" but realistically, they should be acknowledged as "Only Editions"
This is what Lucas had to say about his "Special Editions"
"There will only be one. And it won't be what I would call the "rough cut," it'll be the "final cut."
So why has Lucas released over 3 different versions of the Star Wars saga?
Lucas go get some more Cocoa Puffs, because you're a little cuckoo.
Oh well, I still love Star Wars!
Yoda is my buddha. And Han is my Solomate.
Has anyone tried to watch the saga in chronological form? Ep I-VI
I did and it was horrible. I came to the conclusion that to understand the entire saga, a viewer only needs to watch Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
I did not like this conclusion.
